Headquartered in Cicero, IL, United Scrap Metal, Inc. is a nationally certified Women-Owned Business Enterprise offering recycling solutions guided by decades of experience and a firm commitment to doing the right thing. With facilities in Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, Indiana, Missouri, Florida and Georgia, United Scrap has six hundred team members employed—an enormous growth from its initial establishment in 1978. Since its establishment by Marsha Serlin, United Scrap has grown from $200 and a rental truck to one of the largest full-service recyclers in the country.
Our mission is to make a positive impact on the lives of others by utilizing innovative recycling techniques for all types of recyclable materials to turn waste expense into revenue for our customers. Our excellence in customer service can be attributed to our passion for serving as an invaluable resource to our customers, consumers, and communities, as well as the commitment to quality and continuous improvement among our company culture and team members. We also demonstrate excellence in our seven core values: trust, commitment, loyalty, passion, respect, service, and performance.
In the last twelve months, United Scrap has expanded its reach into the Georgia market and is currently developing plans to further expand into the southern region through 2025. In 2022, United Scrap was awarded the Elkay’s Global Social Responsibility Supplier of the Year Award, and in 2023, was awarded the Novelis Focus 5 Supplier Award and the DuPont FR&SE Contractor Safety Award. Also in 2023, Marsha Serlin, the founder of United Scrap Metal, was inducted into the Dealmakers Hall of Fame.
Most recently, United Scrap held our annual United in Making Her Story Awards Celebration to recognize the remarkable achievements of women who have made a profound impact throughout the organization. Additionally, we will be hosting our 20th annual Recycle with Ronald charity event in 2024 which benefits the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC). Every year United Scrap collects hundreds of thousands of pop tabs to raise funds for RMHC, while also teaching the community about the importance of recycling. Over the years, we have also donated nearly $2 million to provide a ‘home away from home’ for families with children who are suffering from life-threatening illnesses.
